ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Indoor Garden Design is striving, so far as is reasonably practicable, to be as environmentally conscious as possible by achieving compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, taking steps to minimise pollution and continually improving environmental performance as an organisation. One member of the Management Team is responsible for environmental issues and for ensuring that notice is drawn to them throughout the structure of the organisation.

We aim to ensure that:

1 All company vehicles run on unleaded fuel and van usage is monitored for optimum performance. The policy is to increase van-share usage and keep the fleet to a minimum, utilizing public transport and bikes wherever feasible. (We are running an electrically powered van and researching dual fuel vehicles.)

2 Soil/compost materials are not sourced from Sites of Special Scientific Interest and are peat-free or recycled (unless specifically necessary for a plant type).

3 All plants are nursery grown and not sourced directly from the environment.

4 Any pesticides to be organically based and conform to relevant COSSH Regulations. Wherever possible the policy is to physically remove or control pests and diseases biologically before resorting to pesticides.

5 We do not use products containing CFC's.

6 To continually test and use organic growing mediums as alternatives and replacement to peat-based composts (which are always to be sourced from controlled sources) wherever non-essential to the planting requirement.

7 Plastics, glass, paper, tin, cardboard and soil, metal, cartridges to be recycled and to increase the recycling range wherever possible. To increase re-use or recycling.

8 Indoor Garden Design is currently looking into the use of solar power and recycling of rainwater at its premises in North London and to continually monitor its viability.

9 Old plants, containers and growing medium are to be re-used wherever possible. For example, plants, which have been removed from offices, are donated to London Zoo, IGD’s adopted charities, FAITH Centre, Marie Curie Cancer Care, the local neighbourhood or taken home by Clients or staff.

10 Indoor Garden Design is aware of World conservation issues and supports the work of Rain Forest Concern, Action Aid and other issues.

11 Indoor Garden Design actively works to improve the standing achieved with Green Mark accreditation certification.
